SMALL KITCHENS

Recently, our client reminded us that we are publishing only pictures of large kitchens. This is how the idea came up for this note, because small, compact kitchens can be made out of large catalogue kitchen photos.

Small kitchens are actually kitchens that are most difficult to plan. In a limited space it is necessary to store all the essential ingredients, at least one drawer and making sure that there is at least a little working space left and as much storage as possible. At the same time, it is good that kitchen feels spatial and airy. Designing a small kitchen often takes longer than planning a large kitchen, although it may sound unusual, at least if the search for an optimal solution really looks for and reflects every detail.

SEE some of the small kitchenettes below, and in particular it is presented with the drawings of one of them, in which we made as many as 15 different variants of the layout. See how the position of the oven and hob changes, and the fluctuation between the double sink and the single with the dishwasher.

During planning think about storage: how much storage in the kitchen would be needed and what style of opening it would be - handles or hidden handles, without handles which emphasized modern lines.

Otherwise, the layout itself is primarily dependent on the position of the installations, since these are most often fixed, so the layout of some elements is already pre-determined. Next to sink and hob position, you have at least one drawer, some storage area and a dishwasher. Dishwasher is often the first "victim" of small kitchens - because of the small storage area one base unit instead of dishwasher means a better choice in finding the most optimal layout.

Due to its compactness, the oven is most often placed under the hob and sink is smaller, often with a minimum drainage surface or even without. There is usually not enough room for storage pull-outs or deep baskets.

Since we are limited in wide in small kitchens, we often go to height. Higher hanging cabinets mean additional storage, especially on the upper shelves is place for storing all the things that are used from time to time, various plastic containers, some small household appliances, baking trays, bags .... Below is space for everyday things, plates, glasses, cups...
The high hanging cabinets also optically increase the space and give the kitchen a modern look with the given vertical line of doors.

Corner in a small kitchen is a special challenge - often left blank, as there is often too little space to use one of the mechanisms. We nevertheless try to take advantage of the corner, since in the small kitchen every part of the storage area is  needed. This way, we often make custom corner cabinets with a shelf across the entire depth and a door to the accordion or the letter L shape - this way you get a fully-used cabinet to store the container, and access is easy and transparent due to the shape of the door. If there is enough space for any of the mechanisms, we advise a detailed and in-depth consideration of what it will be intended for. If there is a lack of container space, the Le Mans mechanism is the most appropriate. For storing food, the best option is "magic corner".
